Graduation Records Examination is an examination that is necessary for admission to graduate schools in the United States. The Educational Testing Service or better known as the ETS owns and administers the GRE 2018. This examination tests the skills of the students in different platforms such as verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the candidates. The computerized version of GRE can be taken at the Prometric centres. However, one must note that you can take the computer based general GRE once every 21 days and only 5 times in a year. So if a candidates is planning to take the Graduation Records Examination, he/she must strategize the test-taking.
Students who want to take admission in master or doctoral degree programme must take this examination which is conducted for a duration of 3 hours 45 minutes conducted in 1000 test centres across 160 countries.
GRE 2018 will be conducted in two modes which is online mode as well as the offline mode. There will be seven other test along with GRE General Test which will test the knowledge of the candidate in the respective fields. GRE is of two main types – GRE general test and GRE Subject Test. The GRE General Test includes account verbal reasoning, quantitative ability and analytical writing skills whereas, the GRE Subject Test evaluates the applicant’s skill in a particular subject area. These tests are in the following areas: Biochemistry (Cell and Molecular Molecular Biology), Biology, Chemistry, Literature (English), Maths, Physics and, Psychology.
There is no eligibility criteria to appear for GRE 2018. A candidate can take the examination irrespective of his/her age, academic qualification. The candiadte must however be agraduate and fit the eligibility criteria set by the specific college/institute.
The application form for GRE 2018 is approximately $205 around the world which calculates to about Rs.13,500 to 14,500 in Indian currency. GRE subject test costs $150 worldwide which translates to Rs. 10,000 to 11,000 in Indian currency. GRE 2018 will be conducted in 1000 centres across 160 countries. Candidates will be able to check the test centres and their availability from the ETS portal. The portal allows the candidates to choose the GRE 2018 Test Dates from a two-month period for a greater convenience. The GRE 2018 is conducted in centres like Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Tiruvandrum.
GRE Exam Pattern
The GRE question paper will consist of three section - Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. In the paper based mode of the exam, the analytical writing section will have total time duration of 60 minutes. The verbal reasoning will consist of 2 sections and will be allotted a time period of 70 minutes. The quantitative reasoning section will be allotted a total of 80 minutes.The online paper mode will consist of 2 sections where one will be “Analyze an Issue Task” and the other will be “Analyze the Argument Task”.
The GRE 2018 Admit card will be sent by mail to the registred candidates. Candidates must carry the GRE 2018 admit card to the exam centre as the absence of it will prevent the candidate from taking the exam. The Admit card will contain important details like test centre, date and time and basic information.
The Official test scores are available in the official website of GRE. These scores will be sent to the Universities of your choice within six weeks of your test date. Please note that the test score will be valid for 5 years after the candidate has taken the exam.
